A sad little everyday story
of a young woman who wanted
her old girlfriends to
come for drinks and chats
like when they were in
high school - bonding.
Out of the ten invited
only three came
one was certifiable sick
the other a nurse on-call
a third could not come
due to her husband of a year
just returned from a trip
one was working Friday nights
another living out of town
the others did not send
their lame excuses.
Is it a wonder that sometimes
women lose their old friends
and then lament why?
Maybe high school close
relationships are fizzling
not being so close
the times have changed.
I'll wager though that
in a couple of years
some of the others
all of sudden want to get together
and then, it will be too late!
