De Sade

Marquis de Sade
hid his atheism
his serious ideas
about human nature
in lurid tales
Gothic fantasies,
(although he did not
like these per se)
of sex and blinding
depictions of man's
deepest desires!
Today he would have
been put away
for good - .
Then his visits to
the insane asylum
was interrupted
by him being elected
to the revolutionary
congress in 1790es.
Only to be thrown out
again by Napoleon.
He is the ultimate
believer in freedom,
just putting it in
titillating letters.
Today - he would
not have lasted in front
of TV spectators.
The written word
still has power
over the spoken.
But for how long
with You-Tube?
I wonder how the marquis
would penetrate
with his ideas today?
