Death wins - every time

Anger revisited
peppers memories
of the one I trusted
in childhood,
but betrayed by
in adulthood.
Yet as death
agonizingly
approaches -
wrath dissolves
into silver sadness.
Mellowing Mnemosyne
erases everything.

If forever we did live,
Would we ever say "Forgive?"
Or would quarrels last and last,
Future poisoned by the past?
But death makes us realize
Where our heart's allegiance lies,
So although the death's head grins,
It is love who truly wins.
